LARSEN & ERIKSEN x MATHIAS MALLING MORTENSEN

24 Unique Watches, Painted and Engraved by Hand.

This project is the result of an interdisciplinary collaboration between LARSEN & ERIKSEN and Mathias Malling Mortensen, carefully curated by Jens-Peter Brask.

By translating art into a watch - and vice versa - a distinct symbiosis has been formed between complexity and minimalism.

Through an experimental process of playing with lines, layers, and movement, 24 unique pieces emerged, forming a coherent yet individual ode to the 24 hours of the day.

Each watch is hand-painted and engraved by Mathias - and individually numbered.

Mathias Malling Mortensen is a Copenhagen-based artist who has developed a signature style of “cut-out” image production by blending elements of painting and collage with a sculptural approach towards the pictorial plane. His visual language focuses on the essential elements of painting in a way that harks back to the early twentieth century Danish "Linien" movement, as well as post-war Italian Spatialism.

Often working with vibrant monochromatic colour fields and layered sections of paper or canvas, Mathias explores how colour, texture and negative space can be manipulated to produce enigmatic and suggestive compositions.

Mathias' work is best understood as a broad investigation of the intersection between space and affect, and how complex environmental cues can trigger a broad variety of emotional responses.

You can explore Mathias' work here, and you can shop the watches here.
